We're proud to announce that the Memphis Health Center was nominated as a finalist for the 2016 Building Memphis Awards for its recent renovation and expansion. The nomination is in the Best Public/Private Project (less than $10 million) category.
The Memphis Health Center provides affordable and comprehensive health care services to
uninsured and low-income patients in Shelby and Fayette counties. Over the past 40 years, the clinic expanded its services to include internal medicine, dentistry, pediatrics, obstetrics / gynecology, onsite pharmacy, radiology, lab services, podiatry and ophthalmology. Due to growing demand, A2H helped the Memphis Health Center renovate its existing space in South Memphis and expand the facility by an additional 6,800 square feet.
The project involved reprogramming the clinic’s inefficient layout to improve patient/staff flow and to allow flexibility for future growth. Interior renovations, which included new flooring, fixtures, and finishes, were made to refresh the clinic with a modern look. The front entrance was relocated to the corner of E.H. Crump Boulevard and South 4th Street and now features a canopy for safe patient drop off/pick up and enters to a new naturally lit lobby.
With the expansion, the clinic now accommodates additional space for a new waiting area, a larger pharmacy, and extra exam rooms and offices for more patients to be treated throughout the day. Services and administrative offices were relocated from the site’s portable trailers to the new addition.
Prior to this project, the Memphis Health Center served approximately 15,000 patients each year. With the additional exam rooms and services, the new 31,000-square-foot clinic can now serve an additional 11,500 patients annually.
